The latest newcomer to join Tottenham Hotspur’s squad is Savinho, as Roberto De Zerbi’s squad rebuild progresses. The Brazilian will take the number 17 shirt for the upcoming campaign.
Savinho has completed a £75million switch to North London from Manchester City.
The 22-year-old, whose full name is Savio Moreira de Oliveira, will have Savio printed on the back of his jersey this season rather than Savinho.
He has committed to a long-term deal with the Lilywhites and will be aiming to make an immediate impact when Tottenham face Newcastle United at home in the Premier League on Saturday, August 29.
Before that, Spurs meet Charlton Athletic in the EFL Cup second round on Tuesday, though Savinho is not expected to feature as he has only just arrived in North London and has yet to join the rest of De Zerbi’s first-team in training.
Tottenham confirmed the signing on Tuesday morning, continuing their summer spending spree.
A club announcement stated: The Brazilian international, aged 22, joins after two seasons with Manchester City, bringing pace and excitement to the wide areas.
Born in Sao Mateus, Brazil, Savio joined Atletico Mineiro’s youth setup and made his professional bow at just 16 years old in August 2020. During his second season with the senior team, he helped the club achieve a historic domestic treble.
After making 35 senior appearances and scoring twice for Atletico Mineiro, Savio moved to France to sign for Troyes before heading to PSV Eindhoven on loan during the 2022/23 campaign.
A second loan spell the following year took him to Girona, where he experienced his breakthrough campaign. Across an outstanding season he completed 104 dribbles, 18 more than any other player in La Liga.
His impressive performances helped the Spanish side secure third place in the league, their highest-ever final position, and earn a place in the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club’s history. Savio finished his loan stint with 41 appearances and 11 goals.
In July 2024, he transferred to Manchester City and made his debut in the FA Community Shield the following month. He soon made his Premier League bow, with his first UEFA Champions League goal coming in January 2025.
Savio made 84 appearances and netted seven times for Manchester City, and was part of the side that won both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup earlier this year to complete a domestic cup double.
After representing Brazil at various youth levels, he received his first senior call-up in March 2024 and made his debut in the same month during a 1-0 victory over England at Wembley Stadium. He later featured at the 2024 Copa America for his country and has so far earned 13 caps and one goal for the Selecao. Welcome, Savio!
