Tottenham Hotspur have finalized the acquisition of a Brazilian wide player from Manchester City for a fee reported to be £75million with an additional £10million in performance-related clauses, subject to the granting of his work permit.
The 22-year-old, whose birth name is Savio Moreira de Oliveira but has been referred to as Savinho during his Premier League career, has requested to be addressed simply as Savio going forward. This preference will be displayed on his matchday jersey.
The forward, who will don the number 17 shirt at his new club, expressed his delight at completing the move after a protracted negotiation period, describing it as a fantastic chance to join an elite club under a world-class manager.
Upon conversing with the manager, he was immediately convinced this was the right step, with assurances that the coaching staff would support his ambitions to reach the pinnacle of the sport as part of a collective unit.
Johan Lange, the club’s sporting director, revealed that the player had featured on their shortlist for some time and that bringing him to north London represented a significant coup. He emphasised the player’s proven abilities at the highest echelons of the game and expressed confidence that his technical qualities and attitude would complement the squad being assembled at the club.
Lange added that supporters could anticipate being entertained by the player’s attacking play and that he was eager to observe his progression under the guidance of the coaching team.
Manager Roberto De Zerbi noted the new arrival would provide dynamism, inventiveness and technical skill from wide areas, possessing the bravery to take on opponents and the flair to alter the course of matches through his creative contributions.
The Italian coach stated his enthusiasm about having secured the player’s services and looked forward to nurturing his continued development while integrating his character into the team environment.
