Tottenham Hotspur are attempting to bolster Roberto De Zerbi’s ranks further by targeting Omar Marmoush and Savinho from Manchester City in the transfer market.
The north London club are set to boost their attacking options after reaching a verbal agreement with City for Marmoush’s signature, less than a day after coming to terms with Enzo Maresca’s side for winger Savinho.
De Zerbi’s side are on the verge of securing the double signing from the Manchester club, with Marmoush expected to arrive in London on Monday, August 24 to undergo medical checks.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Spurs have arranged an initial loan arrangement with City, which includes a mandatory purchase clause should specific conditions be fulfilled. Should those requirements be satisfied throughout the season, Spurs will transfer £50m to City, a proposal the club have given verbal approval to.
The club continue to seek additional signings, having already invested significantly this summer by acquiring Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke for substantial fees, while Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka and Andy Robertson arrived on free transfers.
Nevertheless, their requirement for additional attacking quality was evident following the 3-0 loss to Brentford, where Spurs were comprehensively beaten in their Premier League season opener.
The arrivals of Savinho and Marmoush will push Spurs’ summer expenditure beyond the £300m mark, with attention turning to what the club will accomplish in the remaining days of the transfer window.
Speaking after the loss to the Bees, De Zerbi stated that for various reasons the side have not yet developed into a proper team and are not at the optimal physical level.
He added that there are no excuses though, and when constructing a new project he does not want time as a factor, but the team must work through these difficulties.
The Italian manager expressed confidence in his players, the club and himself, believing they are working effectively but are behind schedule for the Premier League start. This is an area requiring rapid improvement.
He mentioned the team could have competed more forcefully and lost too many individual battles. The objective is to develop into a cohesive unit, and finding that spirit and soul takes time.
When questioned about the potential signings of the City pair before the Brentford fixture, the Spurs manager indicated it would not be appropriate to discuss players until transfers are confirmed, but he expressed great satisfaction with the situation and confirmed the club have not concluded their business in the transfer market.
He described this as a significant aspect, noting they have enjoyed an excellent summer of signings so far, bringing in quality players with excellent character and spirit.
