Guglielmo Vicario thanks Tottenham fans after Juventus loan

The Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper has shared a message with the club’s supporters after finalising his temporary switch to Juventus.

Guglielmo Vicario has put pen to paper on his season-long loan agreement with the Italian champions after Juventus abandoned their pursuit of Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez at the weekend and turned their attention to the Spurs number one on Sunday.

The 29-year-old underwent his medical examination on Monday before completing the loan move on Tuesday, with the Serie A club holding an option to make the transfer permanent for £8.5million (10m euro).

Vicario has traced the path of his hero Gianluigi Buffon by moving to Turin, having joined Tottenham from Empoli in the summer of 2023. He has accumulated 117 appearances for the north London side and was instrumental in their Europa League triumph last term, producing a crucial stoppage-time save to deny Manchester United defender Luke Shaw’s header in the Bilbao final.

Following confirmation of the deal, Vicario took to Instagram to address Tottenham fans, expressing his gratitude and predicting an exciting campaign ahead under Roberto De Zerbi.

He told supporters that gratitude was the first word that came to mind, explaining that they had made him feel welcome from his very first day. The goalkeeper said playing in the Premier League for a major club had always represented a dream and that Tottenham would hold a permanent place in his heart and memories. He thanked the club, the staff and all his teammates over the years, noting that winning the Europa League together and witnessing the happiness it brought fans would remain an unforgettable memory and source of immense pride. He wished everyone the best for what appears set to be a thrilling season ahead.
