Tottenham were urged multiple times to pursue their current transfer target Omar Marmoush during Daniel Levy’s tenure as chairman.
Former Spurs forward Mido has revealed he previously pushed Levy to sign both fellow Egyptian Mo Salah and Marmoush. The latter is now the subject of a substantial combined offer alongside Manchester City teammate and long-standing Tottenham interest Savinho, with the deal potentially reaching £140million.
Mido claims had Tottenham heeded his recommendations, Marmoush could have joined the north London club years earlier. During an interview on OnTime Sports earlier this year, Mido explained how he first pushed Levy to sign Salah during his Basel spell in Switzerland.
The former striker said he contacted Levy via text message, noting his good relationship with the Tottenham chairman, and urged him to sign Salah while the Egyptian was at Basel.
He explained he told Levy signing Salah was essential because the player would become one of the world’s best. Levy responded he would monitor the player, and Mido believes he now regrets missing the opportunity.
Mido revealed he sent a similar message to Levy around 18 months ago, recommending he track Marmoush and suggesting the player would become one of the world’s best. However, he doubts the club made any move for him at that time.
Brazilian attacker Savinho has been repeatedly connected with Tottenham over the past 12 months, while Marmoush has now also appeared as a target. No deal has been finalised but discussions are reportedly advancing.
Savinho, 22, committed his future to City until 2031 last October but has found first-team opportunities limited at the Etihad. He has accumulated 84 appearances across the past two seasons, having previously developed his career at City’s affiliate clubs Troyes and Girona.
Marmoush, 27, has primarily operated as cover for Erling Haaland following his £59million arrival from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025. He has found the net 16 times in 16 appearances.
Their potential arrivals would extend Tottenham’s active summer recruitment drive following the signings of Sandro Tonali, John Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi.
