Tottenham Hotspur transfer updates as Roberto De Zerbi stunning transfer window
Tottenham Hotspur’s blockbuster transfer window isn’t over yet.
Spurs have finally struck a deal with Manchester City to sign long-term target Savinho for an initial £75million. The fee could rise to £85m with add-ons.
The Lilywhites are also looking to sign City striker Omar Marmoush. However, Enzo Maresca is reluctant to let the Egypt star go until he has found a replacement.
Nevertheless, after a dire couple of seasons in the league, Roberto De Zerbi’s first summer at the helm has been a real statement of intent, with Savinho’s impending signing taking Spurs’ spending beyond the £300m mark.
And there could be further additions, with Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo continuing to be linked with a move to north London. There’s also the not-so-small small of the season opener at Brentford at 5.30pm.

This summer’s spending spree, led by De Zerbi along with sporting director Johan Lange, chief executive Vinai Venkatesham and director of football operations Rafi Moersen, is at odds with the prudent ideology of Daniel Levy.
De Zerbi said that in his experience, the club had honoured their commitments and kept the promises made before his arrival in March. He emphasised that the current efforts are not for the manager’s benefit but for the club, supporters, history, pride and overall standing of the organisation. He believes this period is critical for Tottenham, stating that after two difficult seasons, the atmosphere must be transformed completely to provide renewed energy. Once the transfer business is concluded, he expects the squad to require minimal further adjustments, allowing everyone to work together under the right conditions and direction to gradually build something exceptional.
Spurs are reportedly exploring a bid to sign Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea.
The striker, who spent last season as back-up to Harry Kane at Bayern Munich, is back with the Blues, but could be on the move again soon. Aston Villa are interested in the £65m-rated man, while Spurs are said to be weighing up a move too.
Omar Marmoush has reportedly agreed a five-year deal with Spurs, who are hopeful the transfer can be tied up over the weekend, according to TeamTalk.
The same report claims the arrival of Marmoush will have consequences for Richarlison, who is now assessing his future at the club.
Crystal Palace full-back Daniel Munoz is having second thoughts on signing for Spurs.
The 30-year-old has been linked with a cross-capital switch following Djed Spence’s move to Inter Milan. But, according to Football Insider, Munoz isn’t convinced he will secure regular first-team football amid competition from Pedro Porro.
The Spurs boss has hit back at criticism of the club’s summer spending, which is set to go beyond £300m.
He stated that he feels no pressure and it is not a problem. He expressed confusion about why people would not want Tottenham to improve, describing it as an additional motivation. He noted that last season, all other clubs seemingly wanted to cause problems for them.
Pape Matar Sarr could soon be on his way out of the club after being targeted by Galatasaray.
De Zerbi stated that Sarr began pre-season late after remaining in Senegal until the first week of August. He described the player as talented and said he does not know whether he will stay or go. The situation requires analysis, but he acknowledged Sarr as another extremely important player for the squad.
De Zerbi has insisted that Lucas Bergvall, who made it known to the club earlier in the summer that he wanted a fresh challenge, is staying put.
He stated that Bergvall is definitely remaining, noting they had extensive conversations during pre-season. He referred to the player as an excellent talent with tremendous potential, expressing his happiness that the player wants to stay and stating there are no issues.
Spurs are set to take their own summer spend beyond the £300million mark with the expected arrival of Brazil winger Savinho from Manchester City, while talks also continue over a deal for forward Omar Marmoush.
Enzo Maresca wants a replacement before letting a second player join Spurs. He stated that Marmoush remains with the club and the situation differs from the Savinho transfer. He will wait to see how things develop.
On whether City have plans to replace Marmoush, he added that it is always complex when players leave and someone needs to arrive. They will assess whether Marmoush stays or what transpires. He confirmed they will have more options should players depart, as someone must come in if someone leaves.
Hello and welcome to our Spurs transfer blog on August 22.
The new season starts today with a teatime trip to Brentford. But there’s still plenty of work going on behind the scenes. Savinho is in the bag but will Omar Marmoush follow him through the door?
